What we do

JASC Tsukasa Taiko offers taiko classes throughout the year as well as the opportunity to learn other traditional Japanese musical instruments, including the shamisen (3-string lute) and shinobue (bamboo flute). Activities take place at the Japanese American Service Committee, located on the northside of Chicago.

Our instructors are established, professional musicians and recording artists who are nationally and internationally renowned for their expertise. Our instructors are a part of an artistic lineage that can be traced back to the roots of the traditional Japanese performing arts.

We work closely with schools and other educational institutions to provide special presentations on the history of taiko and Japanese music to audiences of all ages.

Weekly group music classes, private lessons, as well as special workshops are offered throughout the year. Weekly classes are presented quarterly sessions (10 classes per quarter).

All ages and skill levels are welcome!
We recommend that children be 5 years of age or older to begin classes.
